'On the plate, a pinch or a pound?'
“I think that 99 percent of why people don’t think of themselves as good cooks is that they’re reluctant to use salt at home.” -Chef Caroline Fidanza. Don’t worry, I don’t have that problem. Nice article in the New York Times about the use of salt in restaurants and packaged foods.

photograph by jagger photography. Cute cute. I can never help wondering about the logistics of riding a bike in a wedding dress, but it makes for lovely pictures nonetheless.
Click over to Libby and Greg’s wedding at Once Wed. The bride has possibly the most lovely short wedding dress ever, and there were tons of sheep at the wedding! Color me jealous.

the winter blahs
Photograph by andrea. when fighting the winter blahs, head straight for the thrift store and buy the brightest, happiest thing you can find. 79 cents and one daisy-covered plate later and I’m practically a new woman. A good reminder.

ampersands
I’ve been a bad blogger lately, but I’ve been an even worse blog-reader. My Google Reader is a really overwhelming, frightening (but simultaneously lovely!) place to be right now, so I’ve cut a few blogs that I don’t especially enjoy and I’m trying to go easy on adding new ones. Still, when I discovered 300&65 ampersands, via swissmiss, I had to subscribe. Too...

Instead of packing my entire wardrobe like usual, summer clothes for Rio and snow pants in case we get the idea for a little ski trip to Courchevel in between Milan and Paris*, I’ll just have to, me, Gaga, princess of menswear, lover of all my man’s button-downs, pants and coats, go sneaking around in his bag for outfits!!! Genius! Wahooo!!!! Share a suitcase = idea of the century. No sooner said...
Photo by the Sartorialist. Oh. my. gosh. Marry me, mister. (The outfit’s not shabby, either.) I wonder if I could actually ever date a guy who dresses 1000000x better than I.

January 4
Technically my last day of project 365, since I started last year on January 5. I am going to try really, really hard to write in my (paper) journal every day this year, but I’m going to be low-key about it and just do my best. Having a pretty journal helps, though. Snagged this one at anthropologie for four dollars!

the best bad lawyers
The Guardian’s John Mullan reflects on ten of literature’s “best bad lawyers.” Do I need to start getting offended about this kind of thing? I think not! Especially love Sandor Himmelstein (“effing eggheads! It takes an ignorant bastard like me to fight liberal causes”) from Herzog. Gosh, I loved that book.

barbietinis
I wanted to bring a fun champagne cocktail to my friend’s new year’s eve party, so I decided to recreate the first drink I (legally) had out, a barbietini at Pacific Rim in Sarasota. I was able to find the ingredients on theor menu, but had to guess on the proportions. Here’s my super-exact recipe (featuring metric and standard measurements): 1/4 gallon orange juice 500 mL...

For Hannukah, my mom had one of my late grandmother’s necklaces (which had along the way been turned into a ring), made back into a necklace for me. It was made by hand in Europe before my grandma came to the US (by way of Israel.) I really love its imperfections and its so nice to wear something that was once my grandma’s.
