Can’t… stop… reading… Murakami… Seriously, that’s almost all I’ve been reading this summer. If I can get my hands on everything he’s written that’s been translated into English, I’ll read it all. I feel like I know his soul, and I really love seeing the recurring themes and motifs.

This is all I’ve got, sorry. This boy stopped by, unannounced. (Boys, don’t do that.) We hadn’t talked for months. He broke my heart, but I realized tonight that in the end, I “won.” Every relationship has winners and losers in the end, right? Usually it doesn’t feel good to win, to make someone else feel bad or know that things turned out better for you, but...

things i'd like to tell my 17 year-old self
Amazing post on Hula Seventy. A few favorites: 8. diet coke is not the answer. 11. in a few years, you’re going to get a letter from that girl you stood up for in P.E. class. you thought what you did didn’t really mean anything to her but it did, it really did. her letter will make you cry and you will be glad you took on the mean girls. 21. take bigger risks. because I promise, you...

beds beds beds
source I have kind of a thing for beds. Whenever I see one, on a movie or in pictures or at a department store, all I want to do is get in bed, my own or otherwise. (I’m actually blogging from bed right now, and it’s heavenly.) My last year of college, I think I must have spent about eighty-percent of my time in bed. So naturally I flipped over a super great bed compilation post here.

word of the day!
Just learned a new word, hooray! Postprandial - occurring after a meal. (Also preprandial - occurring before a meal.) Mainly used in a medical context, but I think I’ll try to work it into my own vocabulary. Example: I am in postprandial bliss after a few servings of a delicious massaman curry. (Made it myself!)

Finally made it downtown to have a veggie burger at Grindhouse Killer Burgers. It was super tasty. There was a street food event with a bunch of food carts, and I got a little wild with a Korean tofu taco, pineapple habanero popsicle, before heading inside the market for a veggie burger. Awesome.

photo by simply bloom photography via green wedding shoes. I’ve seen photos of a lot of weddings, y’all. I’m a little embarrassed about my wedding obsession, but I think it’s basically out there, so whatever. And at a point, they all start to look the same, and some ideas are way overdone and it’s lovely, but I’m a little bit harder to impress now. At first I...

'alone in a crowd'
photos via mocoloco. !!!!! Woah. This table has 511 little figures beneath the glass top, in a crowd, yet alone. I’m not so sold on the symbolic importance of their aloneliness within the horde of people, but it sure is neat to look at.

I really love buying books—I like owning them and collecting a library—but I’m trying to watch my $’s and my $AUD, so I’m doing the library thing this summer. On the bright side, library books have a history and a story to them. It’s neat to think of all of the people who have read the same copy book before. I’m still on a Murakami kick, and I’m...

From a New York Times article on grade inflation at law schools: James Wagner, the hiring partner at the 29-lawyer Boston firm Conn Kavanaugh Rosenthal Peisch & Ford, said he hadn’t noticed any grade inflation in the last couple of years. But he has noticed something else new from applicants. “About a third to half of the résumés I’ve been getting now profess a love of the Red Sox,” he...

I’ve been getting tons of spam comments here lately. I’m always excited when I get a comment notification, but it’s invariably spam (and in Chinese). I finally decided to google-translate some of the comments before deleting, and at least they’re kind of sweet, if not a bit esoteric and irrelevant to the original post: Thank you for sharing, I wish you a colorful life...

the feeling of surrender
In Princeton, Mr. Brick said, “there was no romance between us.” Of the performer’s dream, Mr. Brick laughed it off as “really weird.” Nevertheless, the performances ended and the yearning began. Mr. Brick recalled contacting Ms. Matsushima and telling her, “I really miss being with you and hanging out with you.” So a get-together was arranged in New York. “We didn’t really date or anything,” Ms....

Damien and I met on a sunny Sunday afternoon at a quaint San Diego outdoor cafe, called Cafe 976. I was reading and love the sun, so i kept moving tables to stay out of the shade. As the hours passed by, i moved about 5 tables, always moving towards Damien. After several hours, his was the only table left in the sun, and Damien asked me to join him… Talk about meeting cute. So I just watched the X-Men movies for the first time, and I’m actually really into them. (Wolverine and Rogue are definitely soulmates, y’all!) I’m just now realizing this must be a Michigan State car, but I was mostly excited to see a Wolverine bumper sticker. My bad. I really hate U Michigan though, so yeah, fuck the wolverines.

vanilla lemonade
Holy heck, how good does vanilla lemonade sound? Here’s the recipe, from stetted. 1 1/2 cups water 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 vanilla bean, split 8 lemons (yielding 1 cup juice) Cold water to fill pitcher In a small saucepan, bring water, sugar, and vanilla bean to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Press vanilla bean in order to let caviar escape. Cover and let cool. Juice lemons, and...

The game didn’t end until one a.m. I was exhausted, but it was a fun romp over the Braves, and I made it onto the telecast in Tampa not once, but twice! It was a fun, but super long night and—long story—it ended with me sobbing in the back of a cab.
