opening day
So many people are wishing me a happy opening day today, and it’s making me very happy. Opening day, y’all. The best day of the year. We actually don’t have our first game until tomorrow, so expect massive fanfare over here, Tumblrinos.

I’ve never settled on a black bean burger recipe that I love. I searched through a million yesterday, and then threw caution to the wind and decided to wing it. This is the least exact recipe ever, but it should still work out:
2.5 cups black beans (I soak and then cook dried beans—you could use a can or two cans of beans depending on how many burgers you want to make)
1/4 cup...

It’s been a good ride, but my bracket is busted. I got fucked this weekend pretty badly by Butler and fuckin’ VCU. I’m still at the top of my pool, but with zero possible points remaining, I’m not sure that I can hang on. March Madness sure is a heartbreaker. I toy with the idea of playing fantasy baseball sometimes, but I really don’t think I could handle six months...

Elizabeth Cotten - Freight Train →
This is seriously the most amazing video. Absolutely beautiful. Embedding is disabled, but it’s well worth a click over to YouTube to watch.

Currently reading: A Million Little Pieces. The folks on the train probably think I’m time traveling from the early-aughts. (I come in peace, y’all.) I mostly just can’t wait until I finish it to watch the Oprah interview. I hope I’m remembering correctly that she cries.
(ps - Consensus so far: It’s aight, but I much prefer Bright Shiny Morning.)

So I don’t have much self-confidence. I don’t think that’s a huge surprise to many of my readers. It’s something that’s a part of who I am and I barely even notice it anymore. It’s only when I casually say something like, oh, I hate my face, and get a super concerned look in response that I realize that maybe it’s a little weird.
Anyway, this isn’t...

Ernest Hemingway, Yelper →
I’m actually not much for McSweeney’s (gasp!), but I dig this. Lately I can’t get FUC’d for anything, so I may need to switch it up and take a page from Mr. Hemingway vis-a-vis my Yelp reviews.

I met a hilarious/cool kid at one of my fav ATL bars, Moes and Joes. I am super gullible when I’ve had (ahem) a few drinks, so when he told me his name was Silky Johnson, I believed him. (I’m not a huge Chappelle Show fan, is that weird?) I insisted that I’d blog about his hip hop group and gave him my URL—I’m such a nerd—and then got a recent ask letting me...

Let’s talk about drop biscuits, y’all. Biscuits aren’t something I eat very often. I threw together a pretty tasty soup last night and decided to make some drop biscuits to go with it. So easy, and a hundred times tastier than I could have imagined. I modified a few different recipes to come up with this one.
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon...

Yeah dude, you are. Fortunately, he also lets slide that he doesn’t feel so comfortable with the BoSox yet (dur), but adds that he thinks he’ll get there. Ugh.

Older dudes at the college gym have creepy on lock. And I’m not easily creeped out. If anyone’s mackin on younger people at the gym, it’s gonna be me.
