The New York Times is killin’ it with a super awesome feature on Murakami’s Tokyo. The feature includes songs or audio passages from Murakami books, photos of the place mentioned in the excerpts, and the excerpts themselves. It is so neat to see photos of important places in some of my favorite books. (I saw a few in person when I traveled to Japan in 2006!) For example, you can play Janacek’s Sinfonietta, look at a photo of the Metropolitan Expressway 3 (above), and read an excerpt from the first chapter of 1Q84, as Aomame rides in a taxi on that expressway and listens to Sinfonietta.
